Listen
Have you ever seen a big puzzle with hundreds of pieces? When you dump the pieces out of the box, it can feel overwhelming, how do you know where to start? That’s where I come in. My job as a Solution Consultant is to help people figure out where each piece fits so we can build the full picture together.
I don’t build the puzzle myself, but I do a lot of work to:
- Plan out how we’ll put it together.
- Show the team which pieces to focus on first.
- Make sure everyone knows their part so we can finish the puzzle successfully.
What Does a Solution Consultant Do?
I Help Teams Solve Problems
Imagine someone has a goal like building a new app, fixing a big problem, or creating a new system but they don’t know where to start. That’s where I step in.
- I listen to what people need.
- I look for problems they may not have noticed.
- I explain what steps they need to take to reach their goal.
For example, if a store wants to make shopping faster for customers, I would talk to the store team, understand what’s slowing things down, and then create a plan to fix it. I work with both technical experts (the builders) and business teams (the planners) to make sure we solve the problem the right way.
I Show the Path Forward
Solving big problems isn’t easy. It’s like having a map to reach a treasure there are steps you need to follow, challenges to overcome, and decisions to make along the way. I create that “map” by:
- Explaining the problem clearly so everyone understands.
- Presenting solutions step by step.
- Adjusting the plan when new challenges come up.
Working with People Around the World
Sometimes, I work with people in different countries, and they each have their own way of doing things. This makes my job even more exciting! For example:
- Some people like fast, clear answers.
- Others want to take time and think carefully.
- In some countries, certain numbers or colors are considered lucky or unlucky!
By learning about these differences, I help teams work together better. It’s like learning new ways to play a game you get better results when you understand how everyone plays.
How I Make Big Problems Smaller
When someone has a big challenge, I don’t just say, “Here’s the answer!” Instead, I do a lot of thinking and planning to make it easier for the team to succeed. Here’s how I do it:
- Understand the Goal – What are we trying to do? What problem are we solving?
- Make a Plan – I figure out the steps needed to reach the goal.
- Share the Plan – I present the solution so everyone understands what needs to happen next.
For example, let’s say a company needs a new system to help customers check out faster. I might:
- Talk to the team to understand what’s slowing things down.
- Create a plan showing how a new system could help.
- Explain the plan in a way that makes sense to everyone, from the tech experts to the managers.
Why My Job Is Exciting
Being a Solution Consultant means:
- Helping people: I solve problems and make things easier for teams.
- Doing important work: I create the plan and show people how to move forward.
- Working with people from everywhere: I connect teams around the world, and I learn something new every day.
The Best Part? Seeing the Big Picture Come Together
At first, a big problem can look like a messy puzzle, but when I do my job well, planning, explaining, and guiding the team it’s like watching all the pieces fit together perfectly.
Even though I’m not the one building the final result, I work hard to make sure everyone has what they need to succeed. Seeing people reach their goal is the most rewarding part of my job.
What about You?
Do you like helping your friends figure out puzzles or solve problems? Maybe one day, you’ll be someone who helps teams work together to achieve big goals too! 😊
